Fourth of July Weekend 2021

Hello Campers ,

Happy 4th of July!

July 4th weekend is upon us and unfortunately it’s just like Memorial Day Weekend, weather-wise, so try to make the best of it.

Most activities will go on as scheduled.  The Boat Parade and Fireworks may be delayed a day, so check with the office on the day events are scheduled.  Check the website or pick up a flyer in the office.

There is a utility issue I need to pass along to some of you.  For the past two weeks some of you have noticed low water pressure in certain areas of the park.  We apologize for this and are doing our best to fix it.  We have isolated the affected area, unfortunately we have been unable thus far to locate the leak.  Some of you may be without water until the leak is found and repaired.  Those sites affected are Red 1-40 and Green 31-36.

Again, we apologize for this and will keep you updated on repair progress.

Think positive!  The sun will eventually shine.

Have a Happy 4th!

John

Camping Update 2021 May 15th

Camping Update 2021

Hi everyone,

Slowly people are filing in and the camp is taking shape. The trees are leafing out as well meaning Summer is just around the corner even though it doesn’t feel like it.Camping Update 2021 trees are leafing out

I wanted to discuss a few things with you before we get too far along into the season.
  • First many of you are neglecting basic trailer maintenance including battery maintenance. Your converter will not be able to restore a dead battery and if you don’t want a $100.00 dollar electric bill you need to replace your weak or dead battery.
  • We are still fighting with COX about the cable contract and I want you know it could get ugly meaning a disconnect of service . I wanted to apologize in advance  but there is not much I can do to change COX tactics.
  • We are still looking for volunteers to help complete the new docks which we hope to finish Saturday.

Have a good weekend!

John

Mothers Day 2021 Weekend

Mothers Day 2021

Hello and Happy Mothers Day 2021.

Mothers Day 2021 campfireThis weekend you may have fires so long as they are under 12″ inside a ring of stones, attended to at all times AND fully extinguished at 12PM.

There is a Dock Construction party this weekend at the first beach so anyone  who wishes to help out it would be appreciated.

MOTHERS DAY 2021 WEEKEND

There is no cable or internet service this weekend Sorry. COX is a very difficult  company to deal with and the system has to stay off until all outstanding issues are resolved. I thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Bowdish Camping Season 2021

Bowdish Camping Season 2021

Hello Everyone and welcome to BLCA 2021.

With Covid restrictions slowly winding down the mood of everyone I meet seems to be very upbeat.  Hopefully this will lead to a great Summer.

I first want to start out by saying that this weekend  of April 30th should really be considered more of a cleanup weekend than a camping weekend. There will no services offered other than basic utility services and even those may be inconsistent so I expect all of you to be patient as we work out any kinks in the systems. Please report any utility issues you may have to the office and we will address them as quickly as we can, remembering  things have been off all Winter so patience is a virtue.

Due to expected high winds THERE CAN BE NO FIRES!

There are some changes coming including a new gate security system which may require you to exchange or redeposit for new key fobs. We will let you know as we get more information.

Also I have ordered a dozen new speed bumps to help control speeding in the park in response to campers complaints of excessive speed.  You should expect to see those installed over the course of the Summer.

We have added more dock space to give as many of you as possible boating access to the lake. Please reserve your space as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, due to increase costs we are raising the cost of a pump-out to $20.00.  Due to increases in electric prices we have to raise rates by a penny for seasonals and two cents for weekenders.

As for changes to the park I have decided to address much needed maintenance to the buildings. Many of the camp buildings are old and have excessive wood rot that a simple coat of paint will not fix. So I am going to have carpentry repairs performed one at a time and this will mean they will be out of service while the repairs are performed beginning with the Safari bathroom complex. Please understand and make alternate plans if you use these facilities.

I also would ask that you stay off the grass in the field area.  The grass has taken a beating over the past few years and needs to recover . I will be placing logs to prevent access to these areas until I am satisfied that the grass has recovered.

Thanks for your understanding and have a good weekend.

Remember by RULE you can only stay overnight if your fees are PAID in FULL.  I will be going around and expelling violators who think the RULES do not apply to them.

Winter Message 2021

Hello Everyone,

winter message 2021 loader clearing snowWe are in the throes of a good old fashioned New England Winter
The camp is completely snowed over.  Hopefully when it all melts everything is still in in one piece.

If youngsters such as the Paquins, who used to snowshoe in all the time, should happen to see anything out of sorts please let me know?

All of you should begin to receive, in alphabetical  order, your seasonal statement. I just wanted to send this note to pass along any changes that you will notice. I realize many of you do not like changes in prices but some prices such as the cost of cable tv or upgraded amenities need to be passed along. All I can hope for is your understanding.

First COX Cable.

Cox is a very difficult company to deal with. The contract we had with them expired  in 2017 and they refuse to renew . The campground receives the signal in bulk at a reduced bulk price and is supposed to collect a charge to cover it. Cox now wants to drop bulk service in favor of individual site service at substantially higher rates.

On top of your tv service some of you pay $75.00 some pay $100.00 some even pay $130.00 per month just for internet service with no uniformity in pricing. I have complained to the PUC about the lack of uniformity and the fact that there charges are much higher than their posted residential price and the response I get from the PUC is that because it is a vacation rental COX is allowed to charge whatever they like to cover their costs and make a profit.

What I ask all of you is to understand if we do not pursue and maintain bulk service, COX intends to charge you in the vicinity of $100.00 per month for tv and an additional $100.00 or more per month for internet. In the end many of you could be paying more for cable and internet service than what you pay in site fees. So I intend to maintain bulk pricing. However the cable charge must go up from the present $100.00 to $150.00 per season that works out to $25.00 per month which is slightly less than COX’s posted residential charge. I must ask that all of you accept and pay it, if some of you don’t then the camp has to take it on the chin and will force me to raise it even higher to make up for the shortfall.

Winter message 2021 plowing snowSecondly is the docks and dock charges.

I have purchased a new floating dock for the first beach. Also I’ve rearranged other docks to accommodate as many boats as possible. To help defray the cost of these changes I need to raise the cost of boats and dock slips. Dock slip prices will go up $50.00 per slip. We realize that there is a tremendous backlog of campers who desire a dock slip. However all of you must understand I feel I have reached the end of the pier per se. There just isn’t any more space for more docks and we all have to accept limits. Please respect that. If you have one use it wisely and respect others’ privilege to use a boat on the lake.

Lastly there will be some increase in some services

such as honey wagon $18.00 to $20.00 and seasonal visitors fees from $2.50 and $7.50 to $5.00 and $10.00 respectively I am doing my best to hold the line on prices and as I have said all I can do is ask for your understanding.

Seasonals will be allowed to drive in and begin clean up on April 30th. Only those you who have paid their balance in full may stay from that point on.

Stay positive and stay healthy. See you in the Spring!

Drinking Water Notice — 2020

About the Drinking Water Notice 2020

Hello Everybody,

There seems to be the usual amount of willful dissemination of misinformation, fear-mongering, and general gossip going on about the posting of the notice about the water testing.

We are required to post the notice where it can plainly be seen, if it is not practical to individually notify each person who might possibly be affected by it.

BACK IN MAY WHEN EVERYONE WAS WORRIED ABOUT WHETHER THE CAMPGROUND WOULD EVEN BE ALLOWED TO OPEN WITH THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC, WE DIDN’T GET A WATER TEST DONE.

Now this may seem to be a catastrophe (at least online) but we did get water tests done in June and July, as noted on the PUBLIC NOTICE and have also sent in a test for August.  On those tests, results have been excellent, as is the usual with our water testing.

SO WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

1.  As the PUBLIC NOTICE says:

There is  nothing you need to do at this time.

2. Stop feeding the gossip on Facebook!  Get the actual facts before you start spreading false information!

3. If you would like to boil your drinking water, or use bottled water for drinking, then by all means go ahead and do that.  But don’t claim that it is necessary.
