LABOR DAY WEEKEND
ASTRONOMY EVENT

All astronomy photos ©2010 by G.N. Huftalen
Great family fun!
SEPTEMBER 4TH AND 5TH
 |
George N. Huftalen, Jr.
Metacom Observatory
Warren, RI
will bring his telescope and offer a guided tour of the
night sky! |
| Here is his plan
for the event: |
“We will enjoy a family-oriented tour of the night sky. First, we will gather on the ground on blankets looking at the sky—like fireworks—and I will use an astronomical laser pointer to point out constellations, bright stars and objects we will view at the telescope. This will take less than 10 minutes as kids are excited and impatient to look in the telescope.
This will be a NO moon night as the moon will rise after 1:00 AM and many of the dim objects should be very visible, depending on sky conditions. We will start with dimmer objects like nebulae and move to bright clusters of stars and colorful double stars and finally, Planets Uranus and Jupiter! This is the best conditions for viewing dim objects and meteors!
Closer to the event I will be able to predict if we can see the International Space Station those nights.”
